Information as of September 16, 2026
1. Will the new rules affect how I use imToken?
If you transfer assets between a Thai exchange and imToken, you may need to complete an additional step: proving to the exchange that you control your wallet address.
This is one of the requirements under the Travel Rule issued by Thailand’s SEC, which takes effect on February 27, 2027. It requires regulated digital asset operators to verify ownership or control of self-custody wallets when sending assets to or receiving assets from them. Read the SEC announcement
2. How can I prove that I control a wallet address?
Message signing is one way to do this. You use your wallet to sign a message provided by the exchange, then submit the resulting signature for verification. This proves that you control the address without making an on-chain transfer or paying a network fee.
The exchange also needs to verify your identity using your account information. Verification methods may differ between platforms, so follow your exchange’s official instructions.
3. Does imToken support message signing?
Yes. Starting with v2.21.0, you can select “Sign Message” on the account details page for an ETH account (including Layer 2 and EVM-compatible networks) or a BTC account. Enter the specified message, sign it, and copy the result. For BTC, you also need to select the signature format requested by the verifier. Read the step-by-step guide
4. Can I use this feature to complete verification with a Thai exchange?
That depends on the exchange’s verification method and whether it accepts signatures generated by imToken. Compatibility with the new verification processes at exchanges such as Bitkub and Binance TH has not yet been confirmed.
When you receive an official verification request, check the supported networks, signing method, and steps before using the corresponding feature.
5. Will the stablecoin transfer restrictions reported in the news take effect at the same time?
The two measures are at different stages. The Travel Rule has a confirmed effective date. As of the date of this article, measures such as requiring stablecoin transfers through exchanges and other operators to use the customer’s own account or wallet are still under public consultation and are not yet in force. Read the SEC consultation announcement
6. What can I do now to prepare?
Familiarize yourself with imToken’s message signing feature and follow your exchange’s official announcements. Wait for the platform’s verification instructions before taking action. There is no need to connect to unfamiliar websites or sign messages to “verify in advance.”
When you receive a verification request, check its source, then review the wallet address, network, and message. Address verification does not require you to share your private key or seed phrase with anyone. If you do not understand the message or it does not match the purpose of the verification, cancel the request and check through official channels.
