Singapore, September 3, 2026 â imToken, a non-custodial Web3 wallet serving more than 20 million users across over 150 countries and regions, today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NETSTARS Co., Ltd. ("NETSTARS"), a Japan-based payment service provider, to explore collaboration on bringing stablecoin payments into real-world retail environments.
Under the MOU, imToken and NETSTARS will explore the potential integration of imToken's wallet infrastructure with Stablecoin Pay, a NETSTARS stablecoin payment service developed under StarPay-X, its gateway concept connecting Web2 and Web3 financial services. The companies will examine how to support stablecoin payments at physical retail locations in Japan and explore opportunities to advance adoption across Asia.
Stablecoins are moving beyond on-chain transfers toward a broader range of everyday use cases. For that shift to take place, blockchain networks, user wallets, and merchant acceptance systems need to connect more seamlessly. As a non-custodial wallet, imToken enables users to retain control of their private keys and digital assets while continuing to explore ways to connect wallets with real-world use cases.
The MOU establishes a framework for further discussion and evaluation between imToken and NETSTARS. The companies will combine imToken's experience in multi-chain wallets and Web3 user experience with NETSTARS' expertise in in-store payment acceptance, merchant connectivity, and payment gateway services in Japan to assess potential technical and business approaches for connecting imToken with Stablecoin Pay and expanding multi-wallet support for stablecoin payments.
Connecting Wallets with Real-World Retail
NETSTARS is advancing StarPay-X, a concept designed to connect Web2 and Web3 financial services by building on its existing cashless payment infrastructure. Under this initiative, NETSTARS launched Stablecoin Pay for merchants in July 2026. The service currently supports multiple blockchain networks and stablecoins and is designed to expand support for additional wallets.
In August 2026, NETSTARS completed a proof of concept at a Lawson convenience store in Japan, testing stablecoin payments linked to the store's point-of-sale system. The trial covered USDC, USDT, and JPYC across multiple blockchain networks. It demonstrated the operational feasibility of stablecoin payments in a real-world retail environment and provided a practical foundation for expanding wallet options and merchant use cases.
For imToken, the MOU opens a new avenue to explore real-world use cases for users in Japan and visitors to Japan. Through the collaboration, imToken and NETSTARS will explore how users could pay with stablecoins at physical stores, extending wallet utility from on-chain activity into everyday spending.
Starting in Japan, Exploring Everyday Stablecoin Use
Japan has mature in-store retail and cashless payment infrastructure, alongside a growing number of initiatives exploring practical stablecoin use. imToken and NETSTARS will bring their respective expertise to discussions about the Japanese market and the development of stablecoin payments. When conditions are appropriate, the companies may also explore how relevant experience could be extended to other Asian markets.
This MOU reflects the companies' intent to explore potential areas of collaboration. It does not constitute a commitment to launch or introduce any specific product, service, implementation timeline, or commercial arrangement at this stage. Both companies will continue to discuss and evaluate potential opportunities for collaboration.
