Passkeys make logging in simple and secure. But what if your phone is lost or damaged? Are your assets gone?
In most cases, no. You can recover your account through one of two methods. Here’s what to do in the most common situations.
Scenario 1: Device lost, but cloud sync enabled
If your phone is lost or damaged, don’t worry—this is the easiest scenario to fix. As long as you had cloud sync enabled via iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager, your passkey is safe.
How Recovery Works:
Passkeys have dual protection:
- Hardware Lock: The key is tied to your device's secure chip.
- Cloud Backup: The key is encrypted and securely synced to your personal cloud account (like an Apple ID or Google Account).
Recovery Steps:
- On a new device, log in to the same Apple ID or Google Account you used when creating the wallet.
- Open the imToken Web app and select "Sign in with passkey."
- Complete the identity verification with your fingerprint or Face ID, and your wallet and assets will be restored immediately.
Note: Even though your passkeys are backed up to the cloud, Apple and Google cannot access them. They can only be used with your biometrics (fingerprint or face) or PIN.
Scenario 2: Device lost, and cloud sync not enabled
If your device is lost and cloud sync was not enabled, recovering your account becomes more complicated. You can only recover it if you had set up Account Recovery beforehand.
- If Account Recovery is set up: You can still recover your account.
- If Account Recovery is not set up: The passkey will be permanently lost and cannot be recovered.
What is Account Recovery?
Account Recovery is a security feature provided by imToken that works alongside cloud sync. It adds an extra layer of protection by linking your passkey account to your imToken App wallet. How to Set up Account Recovery
How to Use Account Recovery:
- On the imToken Web login page, click "Lost passkey?".
- Select "Sign in with imToken Wallet."
- Follow the prompts to connect and complete a verification with the same imToken App wallet you linked when you set up account recovery.
- After successful verification, you can restore the corresponding account and its assets.

- Enable Cloud Sync: Turn on the keychain/password manager feature on your Apple or Google account.
- Set Up Account Recovery: Link your imToken Web passkey account to your primary imToken App wallet.
