If you forget the wallet password created through a mnemonic/private key, you can reset the password by importing the mnemonic/private key.
On the blockchain, mnemonics/private keys serve as proofs of ownership and control over tokens within the associated wallet address. Therefore, even if you forget the wallet password, you can reset it with the mnemonic/private key.
However, this method does not apply to wallets created through a Keystore. A Keystore is an encrypted file containing a private key that typically requires a password to access the wallet. If you forget the password associated with the Keystore file, resetting the password solely with Keystore is not possible.
Think of the Keystore file as a secure box that holds a private key. To access this private key, you must input the correct password to unlock the box. If you forget this password, you can't simply change the lock.
In such cases, you must use the current password to unlock the Keystore file, retrieve the private key, set a new password, and generate a new Keystore file.
If you forget the Keystore password, you can try the following methods:
- Based on your password habits, you can repeatedly try commonly used combinations. imToken passwords require a minimum of 8 characters and can be purely numeric, with unlimited attempts permitted.
- imToken, being a decentralized wallet, does not provide password recovery assistance. If you're unable to recover your password after multiple attempts, consider seeking assistance from a professional third-party blockchain security company.
