A withdrawal address is the Ethereum address where a staking user receives validator withdrawals or exit funds. How rewards and principal are credited depends on the validator type and its applicable withdrawal rules.
Early validators mainly used two types of withdrawal credentials in ETH staking:
- 0x01 credentials associated with an Ethereum execution-layer address;
- the earlier 0x00 BLS credentials.
Participating in non-custodial ETH staking with imToken 2.12.2 or later
At initial staking, the validator uses 0x01 withdrawal credentials associated with the Ethereum wallet address, so no additional withdrawal-address setup is required.
Participating in non-custodial ETH staking with a version earlier than imToken 2.12.2
At initial staking, the validator uses 0x00 BLS withdrawal credentials. After the Ethereum Shanghai upgrade enabled validator withdrawals and exits, validators using the earlier 0x00 credentials must update them to a type associated with an Ethereum execution-layer address before completing the relevant withdrawal operations.
Users who staked ETH with a version earlier than imToken 2.12.2 therefore need to open the validator details page and update the original 0x00 BLS withdrawal credentials to an Ethereum wallet address currently supported by the product. Once set, rewards, withdrawals, or exit funds that meet the applicable validator-mode and protocol rules will be sent to that withdrawal address.
Important: You can only change the withdrawal address once. Make sure you use an address you control.
Single validator
1. Open the ETH staking page, click on the wallet address and select the validator that needs its withdrawal address set.
2. After successful set, staking rewards will be automatically and periodically (every few days) sent to your withdrawal address by the Ethereum network.
Multiple validators
If you have multiple validators’ withdrawal addresses needed to be set, you will see a prompt "X validators have not set withdrawal addresses" on top of the validators page. Click "Go to settings” in the prompt to batch set withdrawal addresses for multiple validators.
