What is a Passkey Account?
imToken Web now supports Passkey accounts—a new kind of wallet that doesn’t use mnemonic phrases.
Your wallet’s digital key (the passkey) is stored securely in the secure chip on your phone or computer. With your device’s Face ID/fingerprint you can create or sign in to your account, approve transactions, and easily send/receive tokens.
Key features
- No mnemonic required: Create and sign in with biometrics—no more backup phrases.
- Built-in security: Passkeys are tied to the official website domain, providing built-in protection against phishing. They’re encrypted in the cloud and accessible only with your biometric or PIN.
- Multiple recovery options: Restore using iCloud, Google Password Manager, or an already-linked imToken wallet.
- Flexible payment: Support paying gas fees with multiple tokens, such as USDT and USDC.

How to Create an Account in imToken Web
Currently, you can create an account on the Arbitrum network (more networks coming soon).
Preparation:
- iPhone: iOS 16 or later. Turn on iCloud Keychain sync, and enable Apple ID two-factor authentication.
- Android: Android 9 or later. Enable your password manager with sync, and turn on two-factor authentication.
- Browser: Use a passkey-ready browser such as Safari, Chrome, or Edge. (Not supported in the imToken App’s built-in browser.)
Note: Some Android models (e.g., Huawei, Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO devices) may not support passkeys. For compatibility details, please consult your device manufacturer.
Step 1 (iPhone): Create account
1. Open imToken Web in your mobile browser: https://web.token.im
Tip: Tap the menu (top right) → Settings → Preferences to switch language.
2. Tap Create account in the top-right menu → Enter account name → Create account.
Step 2: Set up passkey
1. Choose where to save your passkey—Passwords (iCloud Keychain), your password manager, or other options(an external security key)—then tap Continue and confirm with Face ID.
2. When you see “Your account is created with Passkey with iCloud Keychain”, the setup is complete.
Tip: Your passkey gets an automatic name like AccountName_CreationDate_Time, so it’s easier to keep track when you have multiple accounts.
For example: Alice_9/22/2025_12:07, Bob_9/23/2025_15:00.
Step 3: Explore account features
After creating your account, open the menu in the top right to explore:
- My Holdings: View your account address. Tap a token (e.g., ETH) to check its price and details. This account is on the Arbitrum network, where you can send and receive tokens.
- Home: Browse curated token collections and insights from imToken.
- My Collections: Search for and create token collections that interest you.
- Settings: Set up recovery, customize preferences, and get help
- Sign Out: View your passkey and creation time, then sign out.
Sign In to Your Account
1. In the top-right menu of imToken Web, tap Sign In → Sign in with Passkey.
2. Choose the passkey you want to use, tap Continue, and confirm with Face ID.
3. To switch accounts later, simply sign out and repeat the steps with another passkey.
FAQ
Q1: Does imToken store my passkey?
A: No. imToken Web is a non-custodial web app. Your passkey is stored in the secure chip on your device, and imToken never uploads or keeps your keys. You always remain in full control of your account and tokens.
Q2: Why don’t I need to back up a mnemonic?
A: Passkeys replace mnemonics. They use your device’s secure chip and biometrics for protection, while iCloud or Google Account sync provides recovery. That means there’s no mnemonic phrase to back up — making it both safer and more convenient.
Q3: What if my device doesn’t support passkeys?
A:Devices that don’t support passkeys can’t create a passkey account in imToken Web. To continue, you can switch to a supported phone or use a compatible desktop system and browser.
Q4: Can I create multiple passkey accounts?
A: Yes. Each new account generates its own passkey and a unique address. All accounts are independent from one another.
