imToken recently introduced a cost-saving feature - Energy Rental, which could reduce your transaction fees by up to 50%.
What is Energy Rental?
Transactions on Tron, such as sending USDT, consume two resources: Energy and Bandwidth. Similar to driving a car where fuel and a speed controller are necessary for a smooth journey to your destination, when you hold TRX, it is automatically burned to replenish these resources when initiating transfers.
However, this process can quickly deplete TRX for frequent traders resulting in high costs. To mitigate this issue, energy rental services have emerged, enabling users to rent energy required for a transaction at a lower cost than directly burning TRX. This service greatly benefits frequent USDT transfers by lowering costs and enhancing transaction efficiency.
Analysis of Energy Rental Benefits
When initiating a transfer on TRON, the sender's transaction fees depend on whether the recipient's wallet contains USDT. Using the example of a recipient's wallet that does contain USDT, let's calculate how much TRX the sender can save through energy rental.
- Direct Transfer: Direct transfer consumes approximately 64285 energy and 345 bandwidth per transaction, costing about 14.34 TRX (including a small amount of bandwidth).
- Energy Rental: By renting 64400 Energy for 10 minutes at only 6.67 TRX, you can save approximately 50%. This equates to a saving of 7.67 TRX compared to direct transfer.
Note: During a transfer, your account's available energy and bandwidth are used first. If these resources are insufficient, TRX will be automatically burned. Because of the blockchain's mechanism, any TRX spent on failed transactions is non-refundable. To avoid unnecessary losses, ensure your account has sufficient TRX.
How to Use Feee.io to rent energy in imToken?
1.Enter the USDT transfer page of your TRON account, input the recipient's address, and you will see two payment options in the gas fee section: Pay TRX to rent energy and Burn TRX.
Selecting either option will show the corresponding fees. For energy rental, the fee is 6.67 TRX, while burning TRX incurs a fee of 14.67 TRX. Apparently, the rental option is more cost-effective.
Note: The fees for different methods will vary based on real-time network conditions, so please refer to the actual fees displayed in the App during the transfer.
2. Choose "Pay TRX to rent energy," then click "Rent Energy" - "Send" to initiate the energy rental transaction with Feee.io. Once the transaction is submitted, click "Next" to proceed to the USDT transfer page, and click "Send" to complete the transfer.
The "Send to" field in the right image above refers to the Feee.io energy rental address.
Please ensure that your TRX balance in the TRON account is greater than the amount required for directly burning TRX when using the "Pay TRX to rent energy" function. Otherwise, you will not be able to use this feature.
For example, when transferring to a recipient with a USDT balance, burning TRX will consume around 14 TRX, so ensure your balance exceeds 14. But for recipients without a USDT balance, the TRX consumption increases to about 28 TRX, meaning your balance should be more than 28.
Note: If TRON network energy is in shortage, the energy rental option won’t appear. You can either "Burn TRX" to proceed or manually rent energy via the "Rent" button on the TRON account homepage and wait for it to be credited before transferring.
