We are pleased to announce imToken now supports the custom RPC and EIP3085 in the latest version.
What is custom RPC?
RPC, or Remote Procedure Call, enables users to connect to remote blockchain nodes like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others, allowing them to send transactions, check transaction status, and more.
With custom RPC support, imToken users can directly connect to networks such as Ethereum-compatible chains (e.g., xDai), Layer 2 networks like Arbitrum and Optimism, as well as Binance Smart Chain and Heco.
In short, the custom RPC feature enables imToken to support all Ethereum compatible networks. For the complete list, visit chainlist.org.
What is EIP3085?
EIP3085 enables users to connect wallet applications like imToken to custom network nodes, allowing them to access various Ethereum-compatible networks directly within supported DApps. This standard enhances the overall experience for DApp developers, wallets, and users alike.
When you open a DApp that supports EIP3085 in imToken, you will be automatically prompted with the necessary custom RPC details to use the DApp. Simply confirm, and you’ll be able to explore DApps across different Ethereum-compatible networks.
Ethereum vs Compatible Networks
The Ethereum ecosystem is booming, processing 1.3 million transactions daily, with over $43 billion locked in DeFi protocols and 3.6 million ETH staked on the Beacon Chain... Why do we still support these Ethereum compatible networks?
The rapid growth of the Ethereum ecosystem has revealed some significant performance bottlenecks. As more users flood the network, Ethereum’s infrastructure has struggled to keep up. Since the DeFi boom in 2020, Ethereum blocks have consistently been fully utilized, causing network congestion and high gas fees.
These performance issues have driven users to seek out alternative, Ethereum-compatible networks (such as BSC and Heco), while also accelerating the development of Layer 2 solutions.
The value of custom RPC
The custom RPC feature lets you access the Layer 2 ecosystem, including Polygon (formerly Matic), xDai (sidechain), Arbitrum, Optimism, and other scaling solutions, all within your wallet to experience open finance.
Additionally, custom RPC enables direct use of Ethereum-compatible networks like BSC, Heco, and more. This means you can now transfer tokens from BSC and other compatible networks directly through imToken and seamlessly interact with various DApps.
imToken now supports custom RPC, EIP3085, and Ethereum test networks (Ropsten, Kovan, Rinkeby, Goerli). Developers can easily switch to the Ethereum test networks within imToken for application debugging, and leverage EIP3085 to allow users to quickly switch to compatible networks. This seamless integration enables users to experience DApps on various networks without manually configuring network settings.
Making Layer 2 happen
Ethereum is the most dynamic ecosystem in the blockchain world, but its infrastructure limitations hinder the full potential of innovative ideas. Overcoming these limitations is crucial for Ethereum's growth.
imToken provides a dedicated Layer 2 section on the "Browser" page, making it easy to explore and experience leading Layer 2 projects in the community.
Finally, the Layer 2 ecosystem is taking shape, and imToken is accelerating its support for Layer 2. We hope that the next time you make a transfer, you won’t have to worry about high miner fees.
