There is a unique transfer mechanism in TRX wallets. Transferring TRX and TRC10 tokens consumes bandwidth, while transferring TRC20 tokens (such as USDT) consumes both energy and bandwidth. If the wallet does not have sufficient energy and bandwidth, the TRON network will automatically deduct a portion of TRX tokens from the sender's address to obtain the required resources.
To help users save on transaction fees, imToken introduced a new feature in version 2.15.6: users can directly rent energy through the Feee.io platform on the transfer page. Compared to directly consuming TRX for transfers, using the energy rental service can save up to 50% on transaction fees.
Please refer to the rental tutorial:
Recently, individual energy rental providers have appeared on Telegram, drawing users with lower prices than official platforms. To use their services, users transfer a small amount of TRX to a specified address, and the provider temporarily allocates a limited amount of energy to the user’s TRX address. For example, transferring 1 TRX might provide 32,041 energy, while 2 TRX could offer 65,015 energy.
Although these low-cost energy services may seem attractive, they come with considerable risks. In October 2024, Billy reached out to several energy rental providers in a Telegram group. After transferring 2 TRX to one provider and successfully receiving energy, his trust in the service grew, prompting him to use it repeatedly.
However, one day Billy mistakenly sent 1,000 USDT instead of TRX to rent energy. Upon realizing the error, he quickly contacted the provider to request a refund. Not only did the provider refuse to return the funds, but they also blocked Billy, leading to his financial loss.
This type of scam is different from traditional fraud. Scammers build trust by initially offering legitimate services. As users successfully complete transactions, they become more trusting and less cautious. If a user makes a mistake, such as sending high-value tokens to the scammer's address, the scammer takes advantage of the situation to steal the assets. Since blockchain transactions are irreversible, it is unlikely that users will be able to recover their tokens.
To mitigate these risks, imToken recommends avoiding energy rental through individual providers. Instead, users can rent energy directly through the TRON USDT transfer page in imToken. This method is secure, reliable, and convenient, while also offering savings on transaction fees.
PSA:
- When renting energy or performing other wallet operations, always verify the credibility and legitimacy of the service provider.
- Services such as energy rental are recommended to be conducted through trusted smart contracts or legitimate platforms. Avoid using services provided by individuals.
- When transferring tokens, be sure to carefully check the token type and recipient address.
