What is mnemonic phrase
A mnemonic phrase, another representation of plaintext private keys, was initially proposed by the BIP39 standard to aid users in memorizing complex private keys. Mnemonics typically consist of 12, 15, 18, or 21 words selected from a fixed word list, generated in a specific order according to an algorithm. Therefore, users need not worry about randomly inputting 12 words to generate an address.
Possessing a mnemonic phrase equates to having control over wallet tokens. If you remove your wallet or change your mobile device, you can restore the wallet by importing the mnemonic phrase.
How to Import a Wallet
- Open imToken and click on "Import existing Wallet"
- Choose "Mnemonic" in the import method
- Enter each word of the mnemonic phrase in order, making sure to include spaces between each word.
Please check out Error “invalid” or “incorrect length” when importing mnemonic if you run into an error when importing.
4. Set a wallet name, password, password hint, and other information.
5. Add Account: Check the chain and network you want to add, and complete the import process.
After importing the account, you will be taken to the wallet page. To switch between accounts, click on the account name in the top left corner to access the "Select Account" page.
Note:
- The mnemonic you imported is wrong if the recovered address is not the same as your original one. Please re-import the correct mnemonic phrase.
- Leaking your mnemonic phrase can lead to theft of your tokens. Please be sure to keep your mnemonic phrases properly. Click here to learn how to safely backup the mnemonic
