A DApp, short for decentralized application, is an application built on blockchain technology and smart contracts.
Unlike traditional apps, a DApp records key data and transaction logic on a public blockchain rather than on a single company’s servers. Traditional apps usually require users to register an account, while DApps generally allow users to connect a wallet directly and use their wallet address as an identifier.
However, not every part of a DApp is necessarily decentralized. Its web interface and images may still be hosted on traditional servers. When an action involves an onchain transaction, you will usually need to review and sign it through your wallet before it is submitted to the blockchain.
Common DApps include decentralized exchanges (DEXs), onchain games, and NFT marketplaces.
💡 Security tip: Before using a DApp, verify its URL through official channels. Before connecting your wallet or signing a transaction, carefully check the domain name, contract address, token allowance, and transaction details to avoid potential asset losses.
